Statement

On exhibit here at the Riverside Café in Ellsworth for the month of April, are three new screen prints and various other older drawings and prints. Collectively these works speak to the title of this show: “Comfort Zone”, through an exploration of the relationship between technology and violence. My newest screen prints, a six-print grouping/work in progress, titled “The 1911 Abides” are being exhibited here for the first time. The 1911, a classic pistol that has been around for over a century, is described in a gun magazine article as comfortable for an all day carry. I'd like to suggest that this desire for comfort might be one of the motivators that underlie our love affair with technology and our difficulty at acknowledging when it is used for violence.
