Paloma Rose Jimenez's hanging sculpture, suggests through its title, something that might undermine both language and form associated with masculinity and gender disparity. Her sad Overlord is a pair of lamp shade forms that expose and echo ideas of enlightenment and oppression. Dangling within its cage is a ruddy pear shaped lump seemingly exposed and vulnerable, hardly safe from a stick wielding ghost of past injustices looking for a piñata to seek vengeance upon. Above this a crinkly second shade offers little solace, but rather contrast in terms of color and posture. Together it is a funky apparatus, held together by a lanky yellow chain all waiting to be dunked in the river, reversing an act formerly reserved for the quarry of misogynists.
