Soldier Woman

By Karin Spitfire

            someone says

            you

            did this for

            me,

            can I say

you did not

            did you

            believed in the cause

need something better than a job at the corner convenience store,

were following a family tradition, or

            making a new

            mark

did the training turned you into a man

            the reason

            so many have used to

            send in their sons

            women soldiers

            volunteering for their own reasons.

            your truth

            anonymous

            untold

we only have the story of others

            the grieving and the powers

who say women went docilely, enraptured, with

great honor to the funeral pyre

            i can only say you

died

            and thatŐs what war does

Kills

You.
